In a significant update today, February 15th, 2024, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has announced a temporary halt on accepting applications for the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
This decision, unveiled by the province, aims to streamline immigration nominations and address critical labor shortages in key sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.
While applications already submitted for the Alberta Opportunity Stream will continue to undergo review by the AAIP, draft applications stored in the AAIP portal – yet to be formally submitted, including those awaiting final fee payment – will not be processed during this pause.
“Our focus is on efficiently managing the current application inventory and ensuring our immigration nominations are aligned with the province’s priorities,” stated a representative of the AAIP.
In addition to managing the existing application volumes, the AAIP will implement measures to uphold reasonable service standards across its various streams.
Updates regarding the lifting of the pause and the resumption of application intake for the Alberta Opportunity Stream will be communicated through the AAIP’s official website.
