Source: Canada Gazette, Part I, Volume 159, Number 1: GOVERNMENT NOTICES Release Date: January 4, 2025

The Canadian government has issued new guidelines for the Agri-Food Immigration Class for 2025, outlining specific limits on the number of applications that will be processed.

Overview

These guidelines are aimed at officers responsible for managing and reviewing applications under the Agri-Food Immigration Class. The application limits for 2025 consider all applications received, regardless of their completeness per section 10 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. A separate cap is set for applications submitted in alternate formats.

Application Limits

For the Agri-Food Immigration Class in 2025:

  • Online Submissions: The Department of Citizenship and Immigration will process up to 1,000 permanent resident visa applications submitted electronically.
  • Alternate Formats: The Department will process up to 10 permanent resident visa applications submitted using alternate formats.

Applications will be counted towards the cap based on the number of applications received, regardless of whether they meet the requirements specified in section 10 of the Regulations. Only complete applications meeting section 10 requirements and determined complete by the designated office will proceed to processing.

Criteria for Processing

Applications not meeting the requirements of section 11 of the Regulations will not count towards the number of applications received and will not be processed. Applications will be processed in the order they are received. Applications received on the same date will be processed based on routine office procedures.

Handling of Incomplete Applications

Applicants whose submissions do not meet the criteria will be informed that their applications do not qualify for processing. Their application and corresponding fees will be returned.

Humanitarian and Compassionate Requests

Requests made under subsection 25(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act from outside Canada that accompany unaccepted applications will not be processed.

Effective Date

These guidelines come into effect at midnight Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2025, and apply to all applications for permanent residence under the Agri-Food Immigration Class received on or after this date.
